Artist Statement

Whether it is a single endemic plant, an ecological community or a broad sweeping landscape, my goal as an artist is to bring some sense of the wild into people’s lives. Rarely do my landscape paintings have humans or any type of human artifacts in them. The paintings are about the land, the species that live there and the natural ecological processes that continually shape or modify them.

My goal as an artist is to inspire feelings of awe, leaving the viewer with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the natural world, while forging new connections to pristine places. Though each painting is recognizable to place, these works are not photo realism. Instead each of these detailed works are painted with shapes, patterns, colors and textures that are intended to evoke an emotional response from the viewer. With a passion for wild places and a Master's degree in Forest Ecology, my work is a distinct combination of love and science.

As wild lands become increasingly lost or marginalized, these paintings serve both as resource documentation of what we currently have and a reminder of what we stand to lose, whether it is one species or an entire ecosystem.
